Simple Snowy Scenes Card

Sometimes you really don’t have time to craft.

I always like to make elaborate cards. I usually end up doing complicated techniques and adding lots of embellishments. But this month is hectic. We’re going out of town (twice), I’m starting a new job, and Christmas is coming which means attempting to get gifts together.

I’ve been wanting to do something with this suite but I kept imagining cards with popped-up die-cutted snow globes with paste embossed snow and somehow making it into a shaker card. Everytime I got excited about an idea I became overwhelmed two seconds later as I realized that I just don’t have the time for that right now.

So I came up with this! Making a simple card became my challenge, and every time I had the urge to go through my ribbon or grab the heat embossing powder, I managed to resist myself. The goal was to make a simple card that I was happy with, and I could not be happier with this card.

This card is made by cutting one piece of patterned paper into four pieces and flipping two of the pieces over. The paper measured 4 7/8″ x 3 5/8″. I trimmed it on the long side at 2″ and on the short side at 2 1/4″ and then glued the pieces onto a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of cardstock.

In case that doesn’t make sense to your brain, the DSP pieces ended up with the following dimensions:

  • 1 3/8″ x 2″
  • 2 1/4″ x 2″
  • 1 3/8″ x 2 7/8″
  • 2 1/4″ 2 7/8″

I also played with the stamp set! I thought the sentiment looked a little odd by itself on the punched piece, so I decided to add some holly berries and leaves, and I think it came out great. It inspired me to stamp on the inside of the card and the envelope! (I always try to decorate the envelope.)

I still plan on making something more elaborate with this suite. I cannot resist the penguins. But I’m happy that I managed to make a card when I felt like I didn’t have the time and that it came out so cute!

Do you have time to make a simple card? I hope you find time to do the things you love as the year comes to a close.

Happy crafting!

  1. I’m so much like you & have trouble making a simple card! Yours is really pretty & takes advantage of our pretty DSP! I’m planning on totally copying your card (I’ll change it up a bit!). Thanks Malia!
