ISS Blog Hop – Grateful

This month is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. There’s nothing like good food and being with family to remind me to be thankful. On that note, we thought this month should be all about gratitude.

Admittedly, this isn’t the most fall-themed card, but once I got the idea in my head I knew I wanted to try it. I love this stamp! It’s a really lovely background piece. It will be available as an Online Exclusive on November 5! I think you’ll be able to come up with a lot of neat things to do with it. Among the Swallows (No. 164561)

To make this card, I stamped a clear block of ink directly on an ink pad and then sprayed a bit of water on the ink to make it smooth out before stamping the block on the paper. After I waited a long time to dry, I inked the Among the Swallows stamp with versamark and then placed the paper on top of the stamp and used a brayer to push the paper onto the stamp and then embossed it with black powder. I think this method is what resulted in some of the lines being thicker, in part because the paper was a bit warped after the watercolor stamping. I might try this again by embossing the image before applying the watercolor effect.

To make the sentiment multi-colored I used Stampin’ Ink and Write Markers. The Stampin’ Blends don’t work well, but the other (water based?) markers are perfect. I did use Granny Apple Green instead of Soft Sea Foam for the green part because the Soft Sea Foam was too light.

I was so pleased to discover the embellishments that really make this card pop. I think the ribbon and adhesive gems make the card look more magical and I love how well they go together.

Next please check out a project by Mary Green! She always makes the neatest cards.

Happy crafting!

  1. I love your card, Malia! And can’t wait to get that new stamp set! I don’t understand how you used the markers for the colored background. It seems it would be all streaky. Did you color on the paper or add color to the blocks? Thanks!
