ISS Blog Hop – New Catalog Favorites

For this month’s blog hop, we wanted to play with our favorite new products! I was very excited to play with the Layers of Beauty bundle. The decorative masks create the most beautiful image of roses, especially when you use blending brushes to add the color, as I did for this card.

Tip: I also tried Stampin’ Blends and watercolor and neither worked nearly as well as the blending brushes.

I loved how it turned out so much that I didn’t want to stamp anything on it. I was worried I would stamp it off-centered and it would devastate me. So I thought embossing the outline image on vellum would be a good solution. The problem with vellum is that it dampens the colors, and I wanted the card receiver to see those beautiful colors.

I decided to make a vellum layer over the blended image that you could easily lift to see the colors underneath, but because I didn’t want anyone writing on the image, I needed to also have an inside of the card. This is what I came up with!

I think if I did this again, I would make a more standard Double Opening card, which would open up on opposite sides, instead of flipping over like pages in a book. I think that would make it more obvious that there was more to the card.

Since our theme is New Catalog Favorites (and because the stamp pads were already on my crafting table) I decided to see how the new In Colors looked, and this is the result. Isn’t it stunning? And proof of how well the colors work together.

Next, please check out a card made by Mary Lou Green! She always has such cool designs and I’m excited to see what her favorite products from the new catalog are.

Happy crafting!
