Nests of Winter Half Flap Card

Have I mentioned that my husband loves birds?

It seems like most people love birds. Every Stampin’ Up! catalog has at least 2 or 3 bird-related products, and I usually end up buying all of them. I was particularly excited about the Nests of Winter product suite, because it’s so fun and beautiful.

I’ve been trying to find card designs that feature a large stamped image. I often feel like there are really cute stamps that I don’t know what to do with, and I feel like this design is a great way to highlight a large stamp and delightful DSP, and is the perfect card for someone who doesn’t like to write very much in a card (like my husband).

Part of my husband’s love of birds means that he wants depictions of birds to be accurate. He doesn’t like it when birds are colored in a way that no real bird looks, so I tried to make these look good. The front birds are colored like Tufted Titmice, which I believe is what the designers had in mind, based on the DSP coloring. The inside bird is supposed to be an American Robin.

Stampin’ Blends made coloring these birds a joy. The way the alcohol markers blend together makes it seem like I am a professional artist. I wasn’t sure if the markers would bleed through the envelope, so I decided to use the Stampin’ Up! watercolor pencils and blender pens, and I love how it turned out. The blender pen smoothed out my scribbles and makes me want to use the watercolor pencils more often.

Is there something that will usually convince you to buy products, like birds or sunflowers or beach themes? I hope you find the perfect product suite soon.

Happy crafting!
